    Having first become famous for its red wines, Burgundy's white wines are enjoying a growing reputation. This is no doubt due to the traditional methods of vinification: maturing on fine lees and regular stirring give the wines the body and smooth richness that is so important to their balance.
    It is on this expertise that we rely to produce the Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes, which possesses the cardinal qualities of Burgundy's white wines. The grapes selected for this wine come from vines on the Côte d'Or that are more than 20 years-old.

    The Mercurey appellation is mainly known for its red wines. For Chardonnay, Château de Santenay favours the marly areas that are richest in limestone.
    The white wines benefit from ideal conditions in both the vineyard and the winery. After moderate pneumatic pressing of the grapes and vinification, the wines are matured on the lees. This cautious approach results in excellent quality white wines, recognizable for their characteristic full-bodied richness.

    Its color is pale shiny gold. The nose is very expressive with much freshness and sharpness. Very aromatic with floral notes, a superb very mellow oak with notes of fresh hazelnuts. The mouth is surprising of freshness and minerality. A beautiful very homogeneous structure that ends with a very long finish. We find the fresh floral aromas as well as hints of white peach and toasty delicate oak. A wine of great precision, chiseled.

    Pale golden color. A nice nose, engaging and yet discreet, delivering notes of fresh butter marrying subtle and elegant oaky aromas.
    A superb freshness that combines verbena and mint.

  • Clos la Chaise Dieu Monopole

    This regional appellation is produced in the commune of "St. Aubin", which is recognized for the exceptional quality of its white wines. The plot is located on a south-south-west facing hillside, very near our Saint-Aubin plot "En Vesvau". This predominantly limestone terroir consists of light clay and sand on top of a limestone fault; the Chardonnay benefits from perfect drainage conditions, resulting in the production of elegant white wines.

    Its color is bright, pale gold,shinny. The nose is bursting with notes of fresh fruit, white peach and citrus with a delicate touch of fresh hazelnut. The palate is lively, full, and balanced. The finish is long and refreshing. A superb set.

    "En Vesvau" means a small valley at the top of a mountain. Château de Santenay's plot is located in the geological continuation of the prestigious village of Montrachet. This terroir, rediscovered relatively recently, has now been perfectly mastered.
    The entire fermentation and ageing process for these wines takes place oak barrels, giving them a hint of hazelnuts which rounds of a superb minerality.

    "La Comme" is derived from the Burgundian word "Combe", meaning a coomb. Château de Santenay accomplishes the rare feat of producing a red wine and a white wine from the same climat. The production of Chardonnay on Santenay's plots remains small, but La Commes' limestone soil results in a beautiful minerality and the characteristic power of very fine white wines.

    Its colour is pale gold. The nose is expressive. The aromas of mango blend harmoniously with delicate wood and vanilla. The mouth is full, fat, powerful and well balanced.     Very few white wines are produced at Santenay, and they are only produced in small quantities. The Beaurepaires climat is located at the top of a hill and enjoys an exceptional amount of sunshine. In old French, "repaire" means "a place where it is good to go". It is definitely a good place for Chardonnay: the resulting wines have a wonderful finesse.

    The colour is golden, brilliant, scintillating. The nose is very aromatic remarkable. A bunch of incredible richness of fruity notes of white peach, pear, apricot, floral with lilies and a very elegant oak with a slight hint of vanilla. All is fresh, chopped.
    The palate is fleshy with a superb acid balance, greedy. We find the elegant fruit and oak and a nice minerality, long and persistent. An achievement that will assert more with a little ageing. Class.

    One of the top producers in Mercurey, Château de Santenay is perfectly placed to reveal all the nuances of this terroir on the Côte Chalonnaise.
    The vieilles vignes (old vines) enable a superb interpretation of these plots due to the vines' maturity. Thanks to a fold in the land on the Côte Chalonnaise we are able to offer this very high quality regional cuvée. A velvety texture and outstanding expression are obtained thanks to this unique plot selection.

    Located on the Côte Chalonnaise, in the continuation of the Côte de Beaune, the steep Mercurey slope is known for its powerful, expressive wines. The largest producer in the appellation, Château de Santenay endeavours to reveal the influence of the clayey marl soil at its best. Rigorous sorting enables the most elegant tannins to be obtained, resulting in the creation of voluptuous wines.

    The freshness of these wines is expressed in their delicate wild berry aromas of raspberries and blackcurrants supported by silky tannins.

    A bright purple color with beautiful purple highlights. The nose smell like a beautiful red fruit compote and is harmoniously blended with a nice light oak. A full mouth, fleshy, very elegant. The tannins are present and give a very nice silky structure. The well-balanced palate is fresh with notes of blueberries, strawberries and a delicate wood. A good length in the palate. A superb product, still in its youth but with a remarkable future.

    This well-named Clos refers to Château de Santenay's most famous owner (Philip the Bold), who was also one of the fathers of Burgundian viticulture thanks to his decree which favoured Pinot Noir over Gamay.
    Located on the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, near Saint-Aubin , these few rows of Pinot Noir are something of a tribute. The wines that they produce offer all the qualities for which the grape variety is famous: aromas of fresh red fruit, enhanced by silky tannins.

    Originally, Clos du Roi in Beaune belonged to the Ducal Crown. On the death of Charles the Bold, last Duke of Burgundy, the vines became royal property.
    This climat is characterized by clay-limestone soil and sand on the surface which ensures good drainage. These qualities enable a full-bodied, generous wine to be produced.

    Its color is dark garnet, very dark, deep. The nose is concentrated with black fruit married with delicate wood. The palate is fleshy, thick, winey. Stewed very fresh black fruit.     "Montée rouge" is an evocative place name which refers to the slope of the Mountain of Beaune and the colour of the soil. The redness of the earth is due to the marl, a natural mixture of red clay and limestone.
    The combination of these conditions produces elegant, distinguished wines with generous tannins and fruity aromas of wild berries.

    "Comme" is a Burgundian term for a coomb: a depression in the soft limestone of the Côte de Beaune. This coomb begins on the edge of Saint Aubin and widens until it reaches Santenay.
    The effect of this predominantly limestone terroir is to bring finesse and freshness to the Pinot Noir. Château de Santenay also produces a white wine on this climat, and the expression of the Chardonnay is equally flattering.

    "Les Gravières", like "La Comme", is among Santenay's most renowned climats. Located at the end of the "La Comme" depression, Les Gravières is rich in gravel and pebbles brought by the glaciers that created the undulating landscape of the Côte d'Or.
    The wines from this terroir have a very recognizable character and an intense bouquet of violets and fresh leather.

    In the extension of the "Les Citernes" plot, at the junction of the coombs of Pernand-Vergelesse and Echevonne, the rain water continues to run off onto "Les Brunettes & Planchots".
    Flourishing on this well-drained soil, Château Santenay's vieilles vignes are more than 60 years-old. This maturity is reflected in the tremendous aromatic power of the wines and their excellent capacity to age.

    To the south of Beaune, the village of Pommard is known for its exclusive production of powerful red wines. Over the centuries drainage work has been carried out on the plots around the village, from which the vines benefit greatly today.
    Often closed when they are young, the wines of Pommard are suited to lengthy periods of laying down. As the years pass, the wines' finesse is revealed through aromatic profiles that blend fruit and spices.

    Clos de Vougeot is surely the ultimate representation of winegrowing in Burgundy. Several producers compete to achieve the best expression of the same terroir. Aware of the challenge, Château de Santenay upholds
    this tradition of competition, initiated by the monks of Citeaux abbey in the 12th century.
    The meticulous care taken in the production of this wine results in well-rounded, refined, mellow tannins, whose velvety texture accompanies an elegant bouquet. Aromas of liquorice, violets and truffles develop after a few years of ageing in the cellar.
